Trekking & Climbing
The 2 National parks around Mérida (Sierra Nevada & Sierra La Culata) offer hundreds of places to explore. Mountain lakes, cloud forest, páramo, deserts, small typical villages and many peaks to hike and climb to. Pico Bolivar and Pico Humboldt are the highest 2 of them reaching up to 5007 metres. The best season to climb them is from December to April. (dry season) From May to November conditions can be very rough and although you are in the tropics you might feel like being in the worst winter of Alaska.
All peak expeditions count with movil phones for more security and are guided by members of the Mérida Mountain Rescue Group that have passed the mountain guide evaluation and homologisation process organized by the government (Cormetur and Inatur) in October 2002. They are fully accredited Tourist and Mountain guides !
Our menu's satisfy any gourmets taste and can easily be adapted to your diet.
As far as trekking is your concern we recommend one of our crossings of the Andes. Down to the Maracaibo-basin (pre-Columbian), the Spanish mule path, from the condor to the crocodile via San Juan Bautista or the path through El Quino down to the Llanos.
Arassari Trek does not suggest high altitude treks to people suffering from heart or pulmonary diseases. Oxygen reduction, pressure changes, freezing cold nights and fatigue can result in serious health problems.
Treks and climbs from 2 to 14 days are available. For more specific information of different tours click below: Note this is not our full program. The sierras offer many more hikes and trails than these.
