César L. Barrio Amorós

A Spanish anthropologist and herpetologist established in Venezuela for several years. He has always travelled in search of the natural and cultural knowledge from all over Europe, Minor Asia, North Africa, some islands in the Indian Ocean and the Caribbean countries. His endless journeys renders discoveries in the field of herp research, often producing published reports from the faunas of Morocco, Turkey, Spain, and now focusing his strength in Venezuela. Currently, he is performing field surveys from different localities of this South American country, portraying ecological relationships of amphibian communities and regional local inventories.
 He has worked for different national and international foundations (e.g. Fundación para el desarrollo de las ciencias Físicas, Matemáticas y Naturales, FUDECI, and the Proyecto Reserva de la Biosfera Alto Orinoco-Casiquiare) executing field works in the upper Orinoco documentating the interactions between Yanomami and Ye’kuana indian tribes with local chelonian populations.
 He is actually linked to the PAT (Programa andes Tropicales dependent to the European Union) and is co-founder of Fundación AndigenA (LINK), a NOG involved with the conservation of the most endangered animals in the Venezuelan Andes.
 César L Barrio is author of the most recent systematic catalog of the amphibians of Venezuela and is especialized in the taxonomy and biogeography of Amphibia, Chelonia and some groups of Ophidia from Venezuela.
