SOME 1 DAY BIKE - it yourself TOURS ! (or guided too)

Pico El Aguila:(80 % downhill nice cycling / approx. 75 km / all levels)
We load up the bikes and drive with a vehicle all the way up to the highest road pass of Venezuela (4100 m). The Transandina is known to be one of the most scenic roads of Venezuela. We first take the road going to Pinango, leading us up as high as 4300 m. Then we cut down into an off-road valley ... "Mucunturia", the valley of the condor.

Stop at the famous stone chapel of San Rafael de Mucuchies and have a typical lunch before we pass Mucuchies (highest town), Mucuruba, Cacute, Tabay  and other interesting places...

After Tabay there are 2 steep and long uphills before you get back to Mérida. If you want to avoid them our back up car can load the bike on.

All in all a very nice day out cycling mainly on paved road for 3 to 6 hours.

Jaji: (Nice cycling day / approx. 35 km)
Drive up by vehicle to the junction of Jaji and la Azulita. We take the road  direction to La Azulita  and will cycle around and back to Jaji. When you have visited the colonial style village and had your Ice cream we cycle back up to the Alcabala and take the same road back that we traveled from Mérida. A stop at La Chorrera de las Gonzalez, waterfall (national Monument) to take a swim. There are some beautiful pools with very fresh water inside the cloud forest.

From there cycling direction Mérida it is about 1 km of uphill before one gets to the crossroad that indicates La Mesa + Posada Papa Miguel. We turn right and take this little side road down to La Mesa, nice changes of vegetation taking place.

From la Mesa we bike over to Ejido and then catch a ride with  our back up vehicle and come back to Mérida.

All in all about 35 km of nice cycling on roads and side roads with little traffic and beautiful views.

El Valle Grande:
Probably the closest place for mountain biking but pretty tough for your legs as almost all the time it is uphill.... which means that there is a long
downhill at the end. From Mérida 1650 m one cycles up to La Culata  at 2950 m or maybe just up to the alcabala in El Playon and then turn left and left again to do some off-road biking.
It is only about 20 km all the way up to La Culata.... but it might take several hours. You are back down very fast !

Round Mérida:( 3 to 6 hours of nice cycling mainly on side roads)
By bike we cycle down to the landing strip of the Mérida Airport.

Take av.16 de September on the left side of the landing strip and go down till the end. Turn left down to the chama river. Continue down and cross the bridge over the rio chama then uphill and take the turn left to San Jacinto or La Pueblita. There is a bit of everything, ups and downs through mainly forest area following. If you feel tired you could break up the trip at "La Cuesta de San Jacinto" and push your bike up for almost an hour to get  up next to our House / Agency and the Cable car.

If not we continue the same road to El Arenal and take left again to reach the road to Tabay - Mérida... there are 2 more uphills coming.  One to La Iglesia del Carmen and the other one is the steep entrance to Mérida city.

There is a chance to take a bath along the way... so take your swimming suit with you.
